On Saturday, July 9, the Meineke Car Care Bowl of Texas hosted a free NCAA Football Youth Clinic at the Methodist Training Center for about 200 Houston-area boys and girls.  This marked the first clinic the bowl has hosted for the greater Houston community.

The event kicked off with University of Houston quarterback and 2007 bowl participant, Case Keenum, who emphasized the importance of teamwork and setting goals to accomplish your dreams.

“Excitement for today was high,” said event coordinator Brad True.  “One parent told me that his son had been awake since 3:00am because he was so excited.”

Participants rotated through multiple stations including coaching in quarterback technique, wide receiver routes, and defensive strategy.  Campers were also provided an event t-shirt from NCAA Football and were treated to lunch from Chick-fil-A following the clinic.

Organizers were thrilled with the response to the clinic, noting that space for the clinic filled three weeks prior to the event date.

“It is because of support for the Houston community that the bowl game has had the success we have seen over the last five years,” noted bowl executive director Heather Houston.  “We want to be an ongoing part of these children’s lives and hope this clinic and the bowl game become a part of their family traditions.”

The Meineke Car Care Bowl of Texas looks forward to hosting the clinic again in 2012. Anyone interested in more information can contact Stephanie Weaver at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).
